Understanding hospital accreditation in India

International

Joint Commission International (JCI)

JCI is an international accreditation body based in the United States. It assesses hospitals against global standards for patient care, safety, and quality management. JCI accreditation is widely recognised by international patients and insurers as a mark of quality. Our database currently tracks 18 JCI-accredited hospitals in India, concentrated in major groups including Apollo, Fortis, Kokilaben, and Narayana.

National Accreditation Board for Hospitals (NABH)

NABH is India's national hospital accreditation body, operating under the Quality Council of India. NABH accreditation covers patient safety, clinical quality, and hospital management standards. Our database currently tracks 52 NABH-accredited hospitals. NABH accreditation is mandatory for many government health schemes and is a baseline quality signal for domestic and international patients.

What accreditation does not guarantee

Accreditation confirms that a hospital met a defined set of standards at the time of assessment. It does not guarantee the skill of individual surgeons, the quality of care you will personally receive, or outcomes for your specific procedure. Accreditation is a useful baseline signal, not a complete quality measure. Always verify current accreditation status directly — it can lapse or be withdrawn.
